Singularly Perturbed Monotone Systems and an Application to Double Phosphorylation Cycles

چکیده
The theory of monotone dynamical systems has been found very useful in the modeling of some gene, protein, and signaling networks. In monotone systems, every net feedback loop is positive. On the other hand, negative feedback loops are important features of many systems, since they are required for adaptation and precision. This paper shows that, provided that these negative loops act at a comparatively fast time scale, the main dynamical property of (strongly) monotone systems, convergence to steady states, is still valid. An application is worked out to a doublephosphorylation “futile cycle” motif which plays a central role in eukaryotic cell signaling.

A hybrid method for singularly perturbed delay boundary value problems exhibiting a right boundary layer
The aim of this paper is to present a numerical method for singularly perturbed convection-diffusion problems with a delay. The method is a combination of the asymptotic expansion technique and the reproducing kernel method (RKM). First an asymptotic expansion for the solution of the given singularly perturbed delayed boundary value problem is constructed. Then the reduced regular delayed diffe...
متن کاملAn efficient numerical method for singularly perturbed second order ordinary differential equation
In this paper an exponentially fitted finite difference method is presented for solving singularly perturbed two-point boundary value problems with the boundary layer. A fitting factor is introduced and the model equation is discretized by a finite difference scheme on an uniform mesh. Thomas algorithm is used to solve the tri-diagonal system. The stability of the algorithm is investigated. It ...
متن کاملMonotone Relaxation Iterates and Applications to Semilinear Singularly Perturbed Problems
This paper deals with monotone relaxation iterates for solving nonlinear monotone difference schemes of elliptic type. The monotone ω-Jacobi and SUR (Successive Under-Relaxation) methods are constructed. The monotone methods solve only linear discrete systems at each iterative step and converge monotonically to the exact solution of the nonlinear monotone difference schemes. Convergent rates of...
متن کاملNumerical method for singularly perturbed fourth order ordinary differential equations of convection-diffusion type
In this paper, we have proposed a numerical method for singularly perturbed fourth order ordinary differential equations of convection-diffusion type. The numerical method combines boundary value technique, asymptotic expansion approximation, shooting method and finite difference method. In order to get a numerical solution for the derivative of the solution, the given interval is divided in...
متن کاملA Block Monotone Domain Decomposition Algorithm for a Nonlinear Singularly Perturbed Parabolic Problem
This paper deals with discrete monotone iterative algorithms for solving a nonlinear singularly perturbed parabolic problem. A block monotone domain decomposition algorithm based on a Schwarz alternating method and on a block iterative scheme is constructed. This monotone algorithm solves only linear discrete systems at each time level and converges monotonically to the exact solution of the no...
